Aquamundo Sports, the first Philippine brand of scuba diving equipment is planning to expand in Cagayan de Oro City. This was disclosed by Manila businessman Ralph Espino as quoted in recent news article.
Created in 2002, Aquamundo offers a full line of equipment including masks, fins, snorkels, wetsuits, booties, BCD’s, regulators, gauges, tanks, apparel and accessories. In 2005 it tied up with a known European manufacturer of air compressors and thus the Q Air Compressor line was born. These high pressure compressors produce breathable air for the scuba diver and the fire fighter.
Espino, who is a scuba sports enthusiast originally set up a travel agency with scuba tours and eventually setting up Aquamundo – a shop distributing scuba diving equipment in the Philippines. He started scuba diving in 1972 but he stopped. He, however, went back to diving in 1992 when he started offering scuba tours and scuba training courses to his travel agency clients.
From offering tour packages and training courses, Espino said he later became more ambitious and became a distributor of scuba equipments and gadgets in that same year.
Aquamundo has shops in Makati and just last year in Cebu, its first outside Manila.
If plans push through, the CDO market will probably cater to diving sites in the region, such as Duka Bay, Camiguin and even in Misamis Occidental.
