SM City Cagayan de Oro recently hosted the city’s version of Earth Hour 2010 with more than a thousand students and representatives from the public and private sectors trooping to Las Ramblas parking area last March 27.
The switching off ceremony and countdown was headed by City Mayor Constantino Jaraula, along with Department of Energy Undersecretary Armi Jane Borje, Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, Xavier University President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, Oro Chamber President and CEPALCO Vice President Ralph Paguio, MORESCO President Bernard Benavidez, NGCP Mindanao Operations Chief Emmanuel Abellanosa, DENR Regional Executive Director Red Maximo Dichoso, DOT Regional Director Catalino Chan and SM Assistant Mall Manager Constantine Arce.
Students from Liceo de Cagayan University, Capitol University, Xavier University and Mindanao State University performed cultural dances while Lua’s Band, Grupong Laya and the Earth Hour Band with Cagayan de Oro’s Jessie Salon performed songs for the environment.
The mall facade lights and tenant store front signages were turned off from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to send a global message that it’s time to take action on global warming.
