A 200-meter zipline will be built at the Monigue tourist spot in the hinterlands of Cagayan de Oro.
During yesterday’s weekly flag-raising at City Hall, Mayor Constantino Jaraula said the zipline’s end to end will be situated at the bases of two hills that extend into a small valley in the Monigue area.
Monigue is a river in Dansolihon which spills onto an underground river cave and extends all the way to Mambuaya.
The cave has a narrow opening with six-inch airspace between ceiling and water. A spelunker has to submerge, equipped with a helmet and a waterproof cap lamp.
The cave contains beautiful sparkling formations which are called calcites. These elements are oxidized materials that take 50 to 60 years to form an inch.
Monigue Cave is said to be the hiding place of families escaping from Japanese invasion during World War II.
The waters in the river cave exit to the bigger Cagayan River.
