The provincial government of Lanao del Norte is now in the final stage for the implementation of a 12-megawatt (MW) hydropower plant that will soon rise in Barangay Pagayawan, Bacolod town.
The provincial government is fast-tracking the documentation and ground preparation to make the province and neighboring areas be spared from the continuing Mindanao power crisis.
The continuing power problem in the southern island, particularly in Northern Mindanao region where the Mindanao power grid is located, made the province of Lanao del Norte to find means to alleviating the worsening power problem.
Earlier, Lanao del Norte provincial officials headed by Gov. Khalid Dimaporo met with the executives of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for presentation of the project proposal that will realize the 12-MW hydropower plant in Pagayawan area.
The hydropower plant project is a major component of the Metro Iligan Regional Infrastructure Development Project (MIRIDP) which also seeks to jump start the local economy and attract more investors in the region, it was gathered.
“Through this hydropower plant, the provincial government and neighboring areas are set to gain huge revenues that can be used to further improve the social services of the province and provide infrastructure projects especially to interior municipalities,” said Provincial Board Member Val Zamora.
