Two faculty members of the Liceo de Cagayan University – Dr. Lesley C. Lubos, Associate Director of Research and Publication Office; and Donna Lou E. Neri, Health Researcher – were among the Ten Outstanding Filipino Researchers 2009 awarded during the 4th National Research Forum held in Aklan State University, Boracay, Aklan, on December 12, 2009.
The other outstanding researchers were Dr. Rogelio D. Cosio, Pampanga Agricultural College; Dr. Bella Marilou B. Daguplo, Our Lady of Fatima University; Dr. Eddie R. Babor, Holy Name University; Dr. Chona Q. Sarmiento, Western Mindanao State University; Dr. Julieta B. Tendero, Western Mindanao State University; Dr. Rumila C. Bullecer, Bohol Island State University; Dr. Felixberto M. Mercado, Enverga University; and Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University. The criteria by which the researchers were judged outstanding included expertise, publications, leadership and awards, and advocacy.
Composing the Panel of Judges were Dr. Andrea G. Azuelo of Central Mindanao University, member; Mr. Jony V. Berjes of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, member; Dr. Hilly Ann R. Quiaoit of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, member; Dr. Nenita D. Palmes of Mindanao University of Science and Technology, member; Dr. Libertad P. Garcia of Quality Management Division of CHED Central Office, member; and CHED 10 Director Dr. Zenaida G. Gersana, chair.
The search, which had 55 entries from 27 colleges across the country, was sponsored by the Philippine Association of Institutions for Research (PAIR) that was founded by the Liceo de Cagayan University in 2007 with Dr. Rafaelita P. Pelaez as Chair of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Genaro V. Japos as President.
It was founded to provide institutional mechanisms to strengthen research capabilities through joint research projects, publications of refereed journals, public dissemination, exchange of expertise, research trainings, and dissemination of best practices among member institutions. Currently, PAIR has 30 member institutions and 500 individual members.
