IN LINE with the national government’s push for increased revenue collection, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region No. 16, under the leadership of Regional Director Esmeralda M. Tabule, has exceeded its collection target for the month of December by P69.8 million, or 19.36% above the P360-million goal for the month.
Furthermore, the region’s collection for the entire year of 2009 has reached P4.7 billion, a 12.72% increase from its collection performance last year. Against its annual goal of almost P5 billion, it has reduced the 22.16% cumulative shortfall as of the 1st quarter to 5.92% by the end of the year.
It can be recalled that when Director Tabule assumed leadership of RR16 last March, she was faced with the challenging task of arresting a P229.7M deficit (22.16%) and P186.8M (18.8%) underperformance against 2008.
The impressive turnaround in its collection performance was made possible through teamwork in the implementation of various tax collection measures, as well as projecting a positive image for the BIR.
Director Tabule has always emphasized teamwork. She believes in the saying “Together Everyone Achieves More” (TEAM).
Under her stewardship, RR16 has implemented policies that would help improve tax collection, such as aggressive tax education, as well as ones that make her office readily accessible to revenue personnel and taxpayers alike, a fact that underscores her commitment to having an office that is not only efficient, but is also taxpayer friendly.
“We collect more, but we make sure that we give our best taxpayer service,” Tabule said.
RR16 is composed of 6 Revenue District Offices, namely: RDO 97, Gingoog City; RDO 98, Cagayan de Oro City; RDO 99, Malaybalay City; RDO 100, Ozamiz City: RDO 101; Iligan City; and RDO 102 in Marawi City. (PIA)
