The entry of the Xavier University High School Department claimed the P17,000 cash prize plus trophy when it was adjudged as the top winner in the City Tourism Board-organized Halad sa Pasko 2009 “Indigay sa Parol” contest held over the weekend at the Limketkai Center, this city.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino ‘Tinnex’ Jaraula, City Tourism Board chairperson Josy P. Aliñabon, First Lady and Board Honorary Chair Divina Jaraula, Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 Regional Director Catalino Chan lll, Limketkai Center president Albino Limketkai and other local tourism officials awarded the cash prizes and trophies to the winners during the awarding ceremony held at the Limketkai Center Rotunda.

The entry of Angelicum Learning Center bagged the P12,000 cash prize plus trophy for the second placer while Fedincio Melallios of barangay Indahag took home P8,000 cash prize plus trophy as the third placer.

Comprising the top 15 finalists who received P1,000 each are the entries of Lorex Erallo, Brian John Recipida, Cagayan de Oro City Jail, Arvie Sabacajan, Harry Jane Rabaso, Tomas Lumbay, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Samuel Beroy, Rusty Quintana, Antonio Vaguchay, James del Rosario, Edwin Goan, Teofilo Dequito, Hector Caratol and Marlon Atazan.

Other 10 finalists who got P500 each are composed of Nilo Cahanap, Hospecio Caseres, Marie Claire Caseres, Roel de Azis, Efren Molo, Ramon Pagulong, Vic Oclarit, Aristotle Caseres, Achilles Caseres and Rona Muhi.

The Halad sa Pasko 2009 “Indigay sa Parol” is an annual lantern-making activity spearheaded by the City Tourism Board and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office that aims to showcase Cagayanons’ artistry and creativity in designing Christmas lanterns using indigenous materials.

Major sponsors are Limketkai Center, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-10 regional technical director Danilo Cacanindin, artist Oscar Floirendo and interior designer and architect Roxanne Paras-Uy. (City Information Office)
