Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, (2nd District, Cagayan de Oro City), yesterday led the ground breaking for the construction of P3.8 million Cugman pedestrian overpass bridge fronting the Cugman Elementary School along the east coast highway of Cagayan de Oro City.

Rodriguez disclosed that the construction of the overpass is made possible in cooperation with Holcim Philippines-Lugait Plant who provided cement and materials amounting to P1.8 million.

Rodriguez said the construction of the overpass in Cugman Elementary School is the first successful private-government initiative project undertaken in the district.

Parents and teachers in Cugman had long been asking local government private institutions for the possible construction of an overpass from the other side of the highways toward near entrance of the public school.

Ernesto Jandayan, Cugman Barangay Chairman, said he is happy with the construction of the overpass bridge at Cugman Elementary School.

He said that the overpass bridge would keep elementary pupils safe when crossing the highways.

He said four public school pupils of Cugman Elementary School were killed for the past years when ran over by speeding vehicles.

Rodriguez also thanked management of Holcim Philippines for their receptiveness and willingness to extend assistance when the public so desired.
