Defending champion Misamis Oriental Meteors kept its undefeated record intact in the Liga Pilipinas Conference 3 “Super Leg” last night at the Cebu Coliseum with a convincing 91-76 victory over the Quezon Red Oilers in the week-long tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Patrick Cabahug fired 20 points on 7-for-16 shooting while getting help from center Erian Daja and point guard Khiel Misa as the Meteors improved their record to 3-0 together with Cebu, thus setting up the stage of a battle royale between the two powerhouse squads. Scheduled at 5 pm today, their face-off is very crucial as it will determine the top qualifier that will earn outright final berth.

The Meteors got their title-defense off to a flying start with a come from behind win over the Smart-Pampanga Buddies, 70-62.

Cabahug, the former University of the Visayas Baby Lancer, topped the Meteors with 19 points while Daja added 10 markers. Hans Thiele paced the Buddies with 14 points.

Then, the Meteors picked up their second win, 84-78, over the Trace-Laguna Stallions.

The Meteors banked on the end-game spurt of Patrick Cabahug to withstand the barrage hot game of the Stallions.

Cabahug scored 11 in the fourth-quarter blitz that helped the Meteors overcome the barrage of triples from Laguna’s sly guard Leomer Losentes.

Misor found the Stallions as tough customers as they found themselves trailing by as much as 12 points back in the second period.

MisOr was trailing until the final 4:36, 69-74, of the fourth when Cabahug scored seven of an 11-0 run that gave the Meteors the lead for good, 80-74, with 2:09 left to play.

Cabahug scored 21 points for the Meteors followed by Melvin Mamaclay who had 19 points, including five triples. Villaver topped Laguna with 22 points, peppered with four triples and Losentes added 11.
