THE National Cheerleading Championship is set to hold its first-ever regional cheer camp and qualifying competition in Cagayan de Oro City this November 14 to 15 at Xavier University Gymnasium.
The National Cheerleading Championship is expecting close to 12 schools coming from all over Mindanao to participate. This is the first time the Nationals are coming to Mindanao and will be hosted by Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro.
The XU Crusader Cheer Force has finished third in both the 2008 and 2009 National Finals where the top 17 collegiate squads battled it out for the right to be called the national champions.
The qualifying weekend begins with a mini-cheer camp on Saturday, November 14, from 8 to 12 p.m. The camp is open to all cheerleading enthusiasts and fans and will cover basic spotting, stunting, cheers and motions, pyramids and others.
The Mindanao Qualifiers will take place on Sunday, November 15, at the Xavier University Gymnasium.
The NCC 2008-2009 season saw over 61 teams from around the country participate in the regional qualifying competitions. This season, the National Cheerleading Championship offers six divisions: all-girls high school and college, coed high school and college, junior and partner stunts.
The National Finals will take place in Manila in March 2010. The NCC is the country’s first and only national cheerleading competition which employs international rules and regulations.
This event is modeled after the American Cheerleading Competitions, the highest level of competition in the world of cheerleading.
International competitive cheerleading emphasizes skills and stunts, gymnastics, and motions, and employs a strict basis of rules and safety standards.
It is the NCC’s ultimate dream is to select, train, and support a Philippine cheerleading squad and win in all international competitions.
