THE town of Opol has posted a growth rate of 3.65 percent, the highest in Misamis Oriental, the latest census conducted by the National Statistics Office showed.
Opol’s population reached 47,187.
Marilou Igdon, provincial census officer, said attributed Opol’s population growth to the increasing number of housing projects in the town.
Tagoloan town followed with a growth rate of 2.68%.
Igdon said Tagoloan’s growth rate could be due to the industries there. The botched Hanjin project could have factored in the increase in Tagoloan’s population of 56,499.
Another town that registered a significant increase is Villanueva, with 2.29%. The town’s population was placed at 29, 315 people.
El Salvador posted an annual growth rate of 2.66%. The city-turned-town has a 41,905 population.
The NSO said Claveria registered an growth rate of .79%. while Balingasag posted a 1.52% growth rate and 57,765 people.
Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro registered a 2.54% growth rate. Its population was only placed at 553,966.
