The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in Region 10 is putting up a community frequency modulated (FM) radio station in Cagayan de Oro City. This was announced by CDA 10 Regional Director Orlando Ravanera during the cooperative pre-membership education seminar (PMES) for the members of the Population and Development Press Corps of Cagayan de Oro City (PDPC-CDO), very recently. Aimed at boosting the information, education, communication and advocacy efforts of CDA-registered cooperatives in the region, the said FM radio station shall be housed at the soon-to-be constructed Regional Cooperative Training Center here in the city.
The community FM radio concept was introduced by TAMBULI UNESCO Project Manager Louie Tabing in conference with cooperative leaders of Region 10 at CDA 10 conference room, early this year. A community radio station is “for the people, about the people and by the people” according to Tabing, who co-founded the Philippine Federation of Rural Broadcasters (PFRB) in the 70s. Ravanera is confident that the concept, which has already been implemented and proven effective in Zamboanga del Sur and Davao Oriental, will significantly improve the life of cooperatives in this part of the country.
