In an effort to help poor college students and senior citizens cope with high transportation cost, the city government of Cagayan de Oro acquired five units of brand new shuttle vans under City Mayor Constantino “Tinnex” Jaraula’s free transportation program dubbed as “Libreng Sakay”.
Shortly after Monday’s flagraising ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Jaraula, along with department heads and chiefs of office, led the blessing of the 22-seater, fully-airconditioned shuttle vans officiated by Rev. Eleuterio Datoy.
The five units of shuttle vans will ply the Lapasan to Bugo route to cover the eastern side of the city, Dansolihon-Bayanga-Mambuaya route in the hinterland and City Hall to sitio Bulao in barangay Iponan route for the city’s western side, the City Mayor said.
Aside from the identified routes, Mayor Jaraula is also considering to deploy shuttle vans to fetch passengers from barangay Bayabas-Bonbon-Kauswagan areas and the Pier to poblacion route.
The “Libreng Sakay” free transportation program is one the city government’s priority programs under the administration of Mayor Jaraula that aims to provide free rides to senior citizens and students in the city, thus, helping poor parents save some money intended for the transportation expenses of their students.
