The entry of Mr. Stanford Bass titled “Cagayan de Oro City (City of Golden Friendship)” emerged as the top winning piece in the recently-concluded Cagayan de Oro Jingle Writing Contest held over the weekend at the Las Ramblas in SM Cagayan de Oro.
City Mayor Constantino ‘Tinnex’ Jaraula, assisted by contest chairperson Celine Meñes, SM mall manager Engr. Giryn Encong, sultry actress Rica Peralejo and young actor Carlo Aquino presented the cash awards to the top three winners shortly after the final showdown among the 10 finalists.
The winning entry, which encapsulates the heart, brand, personality and identity of Cagayan de Oro City, serves as the city’s official jingle that will be performed and played during public shows and festivals, and wherever the city is represented.
Mr. Felipe Abrogar’s entry “Sa Mahigala-ong Cagayan de Oro” bagged the second place while the “Kagayan de Oro” entry by Mr. Eduardo Sambaan took the third place.
Bass went home the P30,000 cash prize for the top winner while the second and third placer got P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.
The panel of judges, headed by Meñes, included Mr. Lito C. Muñoz, Mr. Charlie Canoy, Enrico Lluch and Julius Sollesta.
The top 10 finalists emerged as the ‘cream of the crop’ from among 22 qualifiers which made it to the preliminary round of the contest that is open to all amateur and professional songwriters.
The jingle contest is a joint project of the City Tourism Board chaired by Josy Aliñabon, with the major sponsorship of SM City Cagayan de Oro and in partnership with Promote CdeO Foundation led by president Ruben Vegafria and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office and the City Council Committee on Tourism chaired by City Councilor Alden Bacal.
It can be recalled that the screening of entries was held last August 1, 2009 and the qualifiers were presented on August 7, 2009 at the Atrium in SM Cagayan de Oro. (City Information Office)
