President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo recently signed Republic Act No. 9644 entitled “An Act Declaring August 28 of every year a special non-working holiday in the City of Cagayan de Oro to be known as “Cagayan de Oro City Day.” The law was signed on June 11, 2009.
Republic Act No. 9644 was originated in the House of Representatives as House Bill 3438 principally authored by Cagayan de Oro First District Representative Rolando A. Uy.
It was approved in the House as HB No. 5288 on November 17, 2008 and the Senate approved the same on March 2, 2009.
According to Cong. Uy, with this landmark legislation for Cagayan de Oro, he is hoping that the people will be able to celebrate the city fiesta with jubilant festivities, offer thanksgiving to our patron saint, St. Augustine and reaffirm the sense of belonging in every Cagayanon to work harder for the city’s progress.
