The bangus from Balingasag, Misamis Oriental are now traded to foreign soils, a step forward in attaining BFAR-10 Road Map for the Mariculture Park Development.
WMC Trading and General Merchandise made its first shipment of fresh chilled whole round bangus to Hawaii last July 1 which were sourced out from one of the fish cages in Balingasag Mariculture Park.
“We tasted bangus and we thought this could be a good commodity to export and to be proud of what we have here,” Ms. Venus Melendez of WMC Trading said.
There is really a reason to be proud, its distinct taste and quality beat those from other countries. The owner of WMC Trading has gone to Malaysia and tried their bangus but Balingasag Mariculture Park bangus tasted a lot better.
They chose Hawaii as their first market due to the existence of Filipino populace who love to eat bangus. Their next market expansion will be California, USA.
The sample shipment of 120 kgs. got positive response and their business partner in Hawaii increased their order to 500 kilos for its next shipment.
With this development, bangus now becomes one of the fishery export commodities of Northern Mindanao along with black tiger prawns.
