Korea withstood Team Pilipinas’ numerous rallies to prevail in the end, 83-80, and hand the Philippines’ 5th loss in 6 games at the 31st William Jones Cup in Taipei. Korea started hot racing to a 17-6 spread before RP rallied to pull within 22-17 after 10 minutes of play. Game was a close in the first half with Korea nusing a slim 38-35 lead at the half.
In the second half, Korea again pounced on the RP Team’s turnovers trying to pull away, 56-42. But the Powerade-backed national team rallied again to a basket 59-57 at the 3rd quarter buzzer. In the final period, Korea had an 8 point lead 68-60 before RP countered with its 8-0 run to knot the count 68-all. But Korea was steadier down the stretch to prevail.
Both teams will face again next in Tianjin where they are grouped in Group A together with Japan and Sri Lanka.
