A group of taxi drivers has urged councilors to make an ordinance that would oblige their employers to provide panic buttons in the public vehicles.
The panic button activates a special light outside the taxi which sends a signal that something bad is happening inside the vehicle.
Cagayan de Oro Federation of Taxicab Drivers Association president Alan Gamba said the city council should make panic buttons compulsory because of the number of robberies against taxi drivers.
There are about 1,500 taxis in Cagayan de Oro City.
Taxi drivers are scheduled to meet and discuss the proposal tomorrow morning at Pelaez Sports Center.
