Francis Casey Alcantara’s grass court campaign has kicked off with a good start at the AEGON International Junior Tennis Championships-Roehampton 2009.

Alcantara won his first round singles match at the Grade 1 tournament held in London, Great Britain, according to a report on the International Tennis Federation website (ITFtennis.com).

The 17-year-old Filipino netter from Cagayan de Oro City fought off American Tennys Sandgren, the 11th seed, in three sets.

Alcantara claimed the first set, 6-4. Sandren won the second set tiebreak, 6-7(4), to force a decider. Alcantara then cruised to victory with 6-2 in the final set.

He will face Briton James Chaudry in the second round.
