City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula and a lean delegation left on Sunday, June 14 to the People’s Republic of China to foster closer sisterhood and business relationship between Cagayan de Oro City and the City of Harbin in China.

The trip to China came after Harbin City Mayor Zhang Xiaolian invited Mayor Jaraula to visit Harbin in time for the 20th China Harbin International Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation from June 15-19, 2009. “On behalf of Harbin People’s Municipal Government, I sincerely invite you to visit Harbin for the 20th China Harbin International Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation which will be held in our city between June 15th and 19th . I sincerely hope that this fair will provide an opportunity to develop a friendly and cooperative relationship between our two cities,” Mayor Xiaolian, in a letter-invitation to Mayor Jaraula, said. “Harbin warmly welcomes you and your delegation to visit our city,” added Mayor Xiaolian, who assured Mayor Jaraula group’s accommodation and transportation during their stay in Harbin. Mayor Xiaolian said that the Harbin Trade Fair is one of the four largest economic and trade events in China, which includes both comprehensive and specialized exhibitions that provide a platform for businesses to have exchanges and cooperation and to display their latest products and technologies. Since its establishment, the China Harbin International Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation has been playing an active role in promoting the trade and economic relationship between China and other countries worldwide, the Harbin City Mayor claimed. Aside from Mayor Jaraula, the lean and small Cagayan de Oro City delegation is composed of First Lady Divina Jaraula, City Administrator Griscelda M. Joson and local businessman Hong See.

During their stay in Harbin, Mayor Jaraula and his group is expected to meet with potential Chinese exporters, importers and businessmen during the trade fair and a business forum to be hosted by the Harbin City Government.

While in Harbin, Mayor Jaraula’s group will be toured around the city and visit city landmarks and tourist spots like the Tiger Park and Sun Island Park, Sophia Church, “Dragon Tower”, and the ‘Friendship Cities Exhibition Museum’.

It can be recalled that the sister city agreement between the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Harbin was forged in 2005 when Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano- then Mayor, led a trade mission to promote friendship, trade, education and cultural ties between the two cities.

For his part, City Information Officer Erwin B. Culanag is hopeful that the foreign visit of Mayor Jaraula will enhance Cagayan de Oro City’s sisterhood relationship with Harbin City.

“This trip will definitely strengthen the bilateral relations between our city and the great city of Harbin, aside from boosting economic activities in terms of possible influx of investments from Harbin, and provide an opportunity to promote the tourism potentials of Cagayan de Oro City,“ Culanag said.
