THIS is the third year that Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC) has agreed to buy some of the potatoes and onions it needs from Bukidnon-based farmers.

The cost of shipping the vegetables to Jollibee’s commissary in Metro Manila is more expensive than just buying the imported stuff entirely, but JFC president Tony Tan Caktiong wants to incorporate part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) into its supply chain. That way, even in hard economic times, CSR is not immediately scratched out from the budget.  A major reason the Bukidnon farmers have been successful in partnering with a major company like Jollibee is their nongovernment organization, the North Mindanao Vegetable Producers Association.
