Gingoog City pride Jacky Lloyd Berjame emerged champion in the individual classification of the just concluded Race for Peace First Tour of Mindanao traversing key cities in South Central Mindanao.
Berjame had an aggregate time of 17 hours, 3 minutes and 15.90 seconds followed by Kennedy Guino-o of Davao City with 17 hours, 3.16 minutes and 16.053 seconds. Cagayan de Oro’s Algene Sanchez took 3rd place honors with 17 hours, 7 minutes and 21.967 seconds.
Team Inday Sara of Davao City won the team event after four-days of grueling race of the islands best of the best riders. The first stage covered 153kms. (Davao-GenSan route), 2nd stage -159 kms. (Gen.San-Koronadal),3rd stage -130kms. (Koronadal-Cotabato) and 4th stages – 240 kms. (Cotabato-Davao) for a total 682 kilometers.
Algene Sanchez of Team Cagayan de Oro-B was also Sprint King of the second stage . He was also declared King or Eagle of the Mountain in the high altitudes of Tupi, South Cotabato.
The race is sanctioned by Philcycling headed by Tagaytay City Mayor
Abraham “Bambol” Tolintino, a recognized affiliation of the Union Cycliste International (UCI) through its continental arm,the Asian Cycling Confederation. The Race for Peace-First Tour of Mindanao is the major island’s version of the highly-successful Liquigaz Tour of Luzon (Northern Philippines) and the Padyak Pinoy 2009-Tour of Champions.
But its primary objective is far different from the two tour races as it helps to promote peace peace in Mindanao
