Celebrating its 13th year, the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association has announced that “KUMBIRA 2009, 13th Culinary Show and Live Competitions” will be held on August 13, 14, and 15, 2009 at the Atrium, Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City. With a continuing successful turn-out of participants and visitors every year, KUMBIRA 2009 is expected to be the Event in Mindanao again.
So far the biggest, most challenging and the most popular project of the Association, KUMBIRA 2009, will have the theme “ENHANCING ASIAN CULINARY TRADITIONS”. One of the highlights of the event is the Food Showdown 2009-Mindanao Chef Wars Regional Competition, a production of TV Food Chefs, Inc., and a subsidiary o f ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
The event aims to showcase the best culinary creations of the region while incorporating latest culinary trends. It also aims to promote healthy competition and camaraderie among the different hotels and restaurants, hotel and restaurant schools, as well as, elevate the standards of the culinary industry in the region. The event will also feature renowned Chefs and industry practitioners as judges who will help hone the various skills, artistry and creativeness of the food and beverage practitioners and students in the competitions.
The Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association or COHARA is a Chapter Member of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP). and organized “KUMBIRA” as an annual major event. Cagayan de Oro City Council Resolution 7314-2005 declared every 3rd week of August as Kumbira Week, to focus public attention to activities and programs during Kumbira Week to further gain national recognition in the food and beverage industry. Currently participated with 64 members including allied and associates of various HRAP Accredited Schools, COHARA’s KUMBIRA has proved to be the most notable culinary event in the country, next to Chefs on Parade in Manila.
