Filipino Francis Casey Alcantara and Hsieh Cheng-Peng of Taiwan advanced to the semifinal round of the 45th Astrid Bowl Charleroi, Belgian International Junior Championships 2009 in Charleloi-Marcinelle, Belgium.
The sixth-seeded pair defeated the fourth-ranked tandem of Japan’s Hiroyasu Ehara and Shuichi Sekiguchi, 6-3, 6-3, Thursday at the clay courts of the Royal Astrid Tennis Club.
Alcantara, a native of Cagayan de Oro City, and Hsieh will face the eighth-ranked duo of Facundo Arguello and Kevin Konfederak of Argentina in the semifinals with the finals spot at stake in the International Tennis Federation-organized tournament.
The winner will face the victor of the semis match between the pairs of Andrea Collarini-Agustin Velotti of Argentina and the Brazil-Egypt tandem of Guilherme Clezar and Karim-Mohamed Maamoun.
The Alcantara-Hsieh partnership already produced a major for both netters after winning the Australian Open boys’ doubles junior crown early this year and they are hoping to add the doubles title in this ITF Grade 1 tournament.
Alcantara is hoping to bring his game at the clay courts of Roland Garros in this year’s French Open Junior Championships.
