Cagayan de Oro visual artist Oscar Floirendo, together with fellow visual artist Malyn Bonayog present their visions of “Home Worlds” at the OWG Creative Centre beginning May 28. Featuring Oscar Floriendo’s smooth and subtle mixed media compositions, and Bonayog’s richly detailed oil on canvas pieces, “Home Worlds” takes viewers on a journey into the both artists’ memories and musings on the vital significance of home, family and the environment.
Moving from home to the world beyond, Floirendo’s work focuses on the surrounding environment: “As an artist, one should have a sense of awareness of his environment and experiences.” Stressing the importance of visualizing these experiences with skill, conceptualization and innovation, Floirendo says that for him capturing these moments is an evolving process.
Floirendo received his painting degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He has mounted solo exhibitions at the SM Megamall and in Cagayan de Oro City, as well as contributed to several group exhibitions in Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Alabang, Manila, Mandaluyong and Quezon City at venues such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines, SM Megamall, Shangri-La Plaza, the Philamlife Building, the Goethe Institute Manila and Alliance Francaise.
Floirendo’s awards include a silver Juror’s Choice medal and finalist honors from the 2008 and 2007 Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards, and the 2008 Gawad Sarimbar Award from the Oro Arts Guild. He is affiliated with the Oro Arts Guild and the Redlambago Arts Collective.
