A total of P3.92 billion in customs duties and other taxes have been collected by the Bureau of Customs, District No.10 (BOC-10), last year.
“This amount is actually higher by 48.79%, over our collection of P2.63 billion in the previous year and exceeded by P1.022 billion or 35.32% higher compared to our target of P2.89 billion for 2008,” Atty. Abedin P. Macapasir, BOC-10 District Collector, said.
On a monthly basis, October posted the highest collection with P382.91 million, followed by September with P378.79 million.
This was probably because importation was high during these period because people already start their shopping in preparation for the Christmas season.
The rest of the months posted the following amount of collection: July, P355.95 million, June, P352.86 million, January, P342.08 million and August, P340.67 million.
May, P339.05 million, April, P333.92 million, November, P296.66 million, March, P281.24 million, February, P277.78 million and December, P232.88 million.
In terms of performance of the ports within the area of responsibility of BOC-10, the Mindanao International Container Port (MICT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental posted the highest collection of P2.19 billion.
This was followed by the Cagayan de Oro City Port, P1.25 billion, Iligan City Port, P469.66 million and lowest in Ozamiz City Port with P9.87 million.
On the other hand, a total of P941.69 million was collected by BOC-10 in the first quarter of 2009.
The highest collection was posted in the month of March with P366.26 million, followed by January, P304.64 million and February, P270.79 million, Macapasir added.
