ROTARY International (RI) District 3870 will have its 25th District Conference (Discon) on May 15 to 17, 2009 at Grand Caprice Restaurant, Lim Ket Kai Center, Cagayan de Oro.
The conference is the culmination of the term of District Governor (DG) Rhia Rita Y. Abalos, a term that has been history in the making for the district, she being its first ever lady governor.

All of the 42 clubs in the district, which are from provinces in Northern Mindanao, will be represented in the conference.
PDG Ryu Kwi Hyun, Rotary International Presidenta’s Representative, will talk on “The Picture of Rotary Worldwide Today,” which will surely touch on this yeara’s Rotary theme, “Make Dreams Real.”
Other speakers will be RI District 3830a’s DG Edgardo Limon for “Effective Strategies for Membership Recruitment and Retention” ; Dr. Walter Brown, president of the Philippine Grid Corporation of the Philippines, for “Investment Strategy During Global Economic Crisis” ; PDG Herman Gamboa, Regional Rotary Finance for RY 2003-2005, for “Rotarya’s Gift to Mankind” ; Congressman Leonardo Montemayor of Party List ABA-AKO for “Agricultural Farm Modernization Act/Competitiveness Enhancement Fund” ; and Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the 2nd District, Cagayan de Oro, for “Community Project in Coordination With NGOs in Civic Organization.”
Aside from Congressmen Rodriguez and Montemayor, Past District Governor Constantino Jaraula, whom we all know as our beloved City Mayor, is also among the government officials expected to grace the affair, which include Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno.
This being the 25th Discon, expectations of grand silver anniversaries may come to mind. And the host club, the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro, will make every Rotariana’s dreams real, with Discon Chairman Eduardo Alaba promising this to be the best Discon ever, complete with a dance contest that has become quite a tradition among the districta’s Rotarians who prepare for it months in advance, thus, fostering camaraderie within the club, the kind of bonding that will hopefully spread throughout the districta’s more than 1,000 members.
There will be two dinner celebrations: the fellowship night on May 15 will be at Grand Caprice, while the Governora’s Night on May 16 will be held at the Xavier Sports and Country Club.
The Discon is also where a Rotarian realizes that he truly belongs to a worldwide organization, after finally getting to meet Rotarians from other places in the district, and also from other RI districts.
