Just as I predicted, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino Jaraula has ordered the city hall’s tourism office and barangay officials of Balubal to collaborate in developing and maintaining the area where the Guadalupe shrine is located.
Jaraula gave the order to city tourism officer Imma Rae Gatuslao and the Balubal barangay council as he announced that the area where the Guadalupe shrine is located is becoming a religious and tourism destination here.
The trail to the shrine requires one to cross the Agusan river at least eight times. It would take about two hours and 30 minutes to reach the shrine from the first river crossing.
The recent Holy Week saw hundreds if not thousands participating in the adventure trek to Guadalupe Shrine.
I don’t know if the area really belongs to Balubal, Agusan or Tablon. But one thing’s sure, its development as a tourist destination is inevitable.
